Thursday July 27, 2017 –
Today we cruised another short day. Just
4 locks over a distance of 18 miles. The
destination was Hastings, Ontario. We stopped
at the top of Lock 18, which is right in town, so it was easy to
explore. Locks 16 and 17 are a “flight
lock”. As you pull out of the first
lock, you essentially drive right into the second lock.
The reason for the short day
is that there was a large lake to cross just past Hastings. It’s best to stop short of the lake and to
cross it in the morning before the wind picks up.
Paul and Taffy ate dinner on
their boat that night, but Nancy and Carey went out for dinner. It was here that Carey was reminded of the
fact that in Canada, burgers are cooked medium-well unless you beg the chef to
prepare the burger less well done. It
was a good day. The total lift for the
day (all locks) was 85 feet.
