Staying on a Barge – Wednesday, Sept. 23

We left Ivy Yacht Club Wednesday morning at 7:00 a.m.  We traveled with two other Looper boats - Aunt Aggie and Lady KK, destination Logston Tug Service in Beardstown, Illinois.  Logston Tug Service allows Looper boats to tie up on their barges for the evening for the price of $1.00 a foot (which for LeeLoo is $32.00 for the night). It is just like anchoring except that you are tied securely to a barge instead of hanging on an anchor.  You can really appreciate the 2.5 knots current on the Illinois River when you have to go past the barge and then to into the current in order to safely tie up to the barge.  By late in the afternoon, there were 7 Looper boats in total tied to the barge.  It was fun to meet new Loopers!

We did a walking tour of the town which didn't take long - Beardstown is a very small town.  Later, we met up with the rest of the Loopers at a local bar for 75 cent happy hour beers.

Before going to bed, we heard that the LaGrange Lock, an hour downstream of Beardstown, was closed to southbound traffic.  Everyone agreed to meet at 6:30 the following morning to figure out what to do.

During the night when barges passed by, our boat was really rocking and rolling from the wake – even though we were securely tied to the barge!

Being on the barge also meant that we had no internet so we were unable to post to our blog.  This will be the same case when we are anchoring out.  So, no worries if we go a few days between posting to our blog!
